Today after we went to the "mini great wall" we went to a little shop. When I first saw the shop I didn't think much of it. I knew that the purpose of us going to the little shop was to learning about paper cutting. Once we got upstairs I noticed a petite woman holding a pair of scissors cutting a piece of paper. I sat down and our guide began to explain the history of Ancient Chinese Paper Cutting. I became more and more interested then finally the petite woman lifted the pieces of cut out paper and out of nowhere (okay maybe not nowhere) there was a magnificent paper butterfly. They then allowed us to get hands on (literally). The scissors were small but my hands are little so I made it work. I cut and cut, trying to stay as focused as possible. After all my cutting and concentration came a butterfly think. At first I had no idea what it was. Clearly Paper Cutting isn't my calling, however, I enjoyed it very much. The delicate artwork takes skill and patience. I couldn't walk out without bringing some home! So, once again, I fall a little short in the whole "crafts department" but the experience was incredible!

You can never fall short of something as long as you try. Your end result may differ from someone you perceive as more talented (perhaps smaller hands for tiny fingers), but fall short you did not. How many people can say they learned how to cut paper in an artist's home in China. I would call that a success.
